Tragic circumstances unfolded on Interstate 20 as a solitary vehicle collision resulted in the loss of life for one individual. According to Lance Cpl. Brittany Glover of the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the incident occurred at approximately 2:51 p.m. near Exit 6 on the westbound side of Interstate 20, situated merely three miles east of North Augusta.
Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables provided further elaboration, indicating that a 2002 Mitsubishi Galant was traveling in the westbound direction when it veered off the right side of the roadway. Subsequently, the vehicle collided with a traffic sign and proceeded to crash into multiple trees, ultimately erupting into flames. Tragically, the driver succumbed to their injuries at the scene of the accident.
Given the severity of the burns sustained during the fire, the driver’s identity has yet to be definitively confirmed.
